Job Purpose Provincial Treasury, Western Cape Government has an exciting opportunity for a competent and qualified economist to promote effective financial resource allocation and provide research, analysis and advice that informs the preparation of the provincial budget and monitor budget implementation.
Minimum Requirements An appropriate Honours Degree qualification; Minimum of 3 years management experience in Economic/Policy Research/ Strategic Planning/Budgeting or Policy Analysis environment; A valid code B driving license.
Recommendation An appropriate Masters Degree; A keen interest in working in an applied economic policy environment.
Key Performance Areas Provide inputs into the budget overview and Medium Term Budget policy statement; Conduct; research and analysis to make recommendations for budget policy and allocations; Monitor and assess performance, budget implementation and alignment of budgets to strategic priorities; Provide support to provincial departments on budget planning and performance related matters.
Competencies Knowledge of public sector strategic planning and budgeting; Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape; Proven computer literacy; Research writing and reporting skills; Strategic thinking and analytical ability.
Remuneration All-inclusive salary package of R 697 011 per annum (Salary Level 11)

Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees’ service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
